The feast begins the evening before, at sunset.
The Yom Tov days at the start of the feast differ between Israel and the Diaspora.
Understanding SUKKOT
During Sukkot, we willingly leave the comfort of the house for a Sukkah, a temporary shelter, in memory of the protection received in the desert.
It is also a time of joy: the feast brings together family, neighbours and community around the same table.
Traditions
- Building the Sukkah.
- Meals eaten in the Sukkah.
- The Arba Minim: Lulav, Etrog, Hadass and Arava.
- The joy of the feast, shared with others.
When a practice varies, it is presented as a custom according to communities, not as a universal obligation.
What this feast teaches us
« While we willingly leave the comfort of our homes for the Sukkah, some families face a fragility they never chose. »
